Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT):

Introduction:

  • AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is an entrance test for aspirants willing to join Indian Air Force as Commissioned Officer in Flying, Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-Technical).

  • The examination is conducted twice a year in February and August.

  • The test is conducted all across India by the Indian Air Force.

What is EKT under AFCAT exam?

  • EKT or Engineering Knowledge Test is a meant to test candidate’s engineering knowledge. 

  • The test is compulsory for candidates applying for Technical Ground Duty branch. 

  • The subjects under this exam are Mechanical, Computer Science and Electrical & Electronics.

Exam Pattern Highlights:

 The exam will be conducted in online mode i.e., Computer Based Test in two shifts. The question paper will be available in English language only.

  • Duration of the exam will be of 2 hours (120 minutes).

  • The total number of questions asked in the exam will be 100.

  • There will be 4 sections in the exam namely- General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.

  • Every correct answer will be awarded +3 marks and negative marking will be applicable.

  • AFCAT Syllabus will be based on Higher Secondary or 10+2 level knowledge.

 

AFCAT Exam Pattern:

AFCAT is an online test to be conducted in two shifts in english language. It will consist of 100 objective questions to be solved within a duration of 120 minutes. The maximum marks an aspirant can score in AFCAT are 300.

The question paper will be segregated into 4 sections- General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.

AFCAT Exam Syllabus:

The syllabus for AFCAT 2019 will be based on 10+2 or higher secondary school level knowledge. It will be as decided by IAF for every section. Candidates must make sure that they follow the right syllabus to prepare well for the exam. The section wise syllabus is given as follows:

Part 1: General Awareness:

 The aim of this section is to determine the general thought process of the participants. It will assess aspirant’s awareness in current events. The main topics along for this section are given below:

  • History

  • Sports

  • Geography

  • Environment,

  • Defense

  • Art and Culture

  • International Current Affairs

  • Politics

  • Civics

  • Basic Science

Part 2: Verbal Ability in English:

This section has questions that will test the grasp an applicant has on the English language. The aspirant’s vocabulary, grammar and verbal ability will be evaluated in this section. The important topics for this section are:

  • Comprehension

  • Fill in the blanks by choosing the appropriate word

  • Error Detection

  • Sentence Completion

  • Synonyms and Antonyms

  • Testing of Vocabulary

  • Tenses

  • Basic Grammar

Part 3: Numerical Ability:

 In this segment, the aspirant’s ability to solve numerical problems with speed and accuracy is evaluated. It will include questions to assess how participants can work with numbers, do quick calculations and understand various arithmetic questions. They ought to have a good understanding of basic mathematical concepts to fare well in this section. The important topics for this section are as follows:

  • Decimal Fraction

  • Simplification

  • Average

  • Ratio and Proportion

  • Simple interest

  • Profit and loss

  • Percentage

Part 4: Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test:

In this segment, students should expect questions based on diagrams, figures, charts, tables as also analogies and reasoning. The important topics are listed below:

  • Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability

  • Data interpretation

  • Embedded Figure

  • Missing Character

  • Sets based on arrangements

  • Rotated blocks

  • Hidden figures
